The first major separate exhibition for more than 10 years was held at Kunstnernes hus in Oslo in January and February of 1964. With 89 paintings it was the largest exhibition since the memorial exhibition in 1933. In addition to paintings from Harriet Backer's time in Paris and Kristiania (Oslo) from the late 1870s until her death, a selection of paintings made in Munich such as her early interior paintings from Schilersee was also exhibited.

The exhibition was later that year also shown at Bergens kunstforening.
