
The Art of Norway 1750-1914
Large exhibition of Norwegian Art in Madison, Minneapolis and Seattle. The exhibition was a cooperation between the Norwegian Department of Foreign Affairs, The Norwegian Embassy in Washington D.C., The National Gallery in Oslo, The Norwegian Museum of Decorative Arts and Design Norwegian Museum of Cultural Heritage and several American institutions such as The Norwegian-American Museum in Decorah, Elvehjem museum of Art, The University of Wisconsin-Madison and The Seattle Art Museum. The exhibition consisted of several parts and in addition to a little over 100 paintings decorative arts, textiles, ceramics and silver were exhibited, in total more than 250 works and objects.
Harriet Backer was represented with four paintings, all from The National Gallery in Oslo. Among the other Norwegian painters in the exhibition we find such names as I.C. Dahl, Lars Hertervig, Kitty Kielland, Erik Werenskiold, Edvard Munch and Nikolai Astrup.
