The first major separate exhibition for more than 10 years was held at Bergens kunstforening in February and March of 1964. With 89 paintings it was the largest exhibition since the memorial exhibition in 1933. In addition to paintings from Harriet Backer's time in Paris and Kristiania (Oslo) from the late 1870s until her death, a selection of paintings made in Munich such as her early interior paintings from Schilersee was also exhibited.


The exhibition had earlier that year been shown at Kunstnernes hus in Oslo
