
Konfrontasjon: Striden om Kunstforeningen 1875-1885
Anniversary exhibition for the 150-year jubilee of Oslo Kunstforening in the spring and summer of 1986. The exhibition was a cooperation between the Art association and the University of Oslo on an initiative by Marit Lange. The theme of the exhibition was the years of conflict 1875-1885 when a new generation of artists such as Erik Werenskiold, Christian Krogh and Frits Thaulow were in opposition to the hegemonic role of the association in artistic life in Norway, a conflict that resulted in the foundation of the yearly Autum exhibition in 1882.
Harriet Backer was represented with Praying Nuns painted while a student in Munich which had been exhibited at the Art Association in 1878.
