Bergsliens malerskole
(Bergsliens School for Painters)
Founded: 1872
Knud Bergslien took over the painter school of Johan Fredrik Eckersberg after Eckersbergs death in 1872. The School was at first located in Kongens gate 13, and moved in 1882 to Centralgården at Stortingsplass 7 (Now Lille Grensen 7). Harriet Backer was a student at the school from 1871-74. Names of other famous students include Christian Skredsvig, Christian Krogh, Edvard Munch, Marie Tannæs and Asta Nørregaard. Halfdan Egedius attended classes in drawing at the school aged only nine.
