Exhibition at Kunstnerforbundet in cooperation with Riksgalleriet with art from female Norwegian artists working before the turn of the century on an initiative from Anne Wichstrøm. The exhibition wanted to show works made by female artists active in a time where there were few possibilities for a formal artistic education, and the artists in the exhibition were pioneers in establishing a place in the art world for their later colleagues. Among the artists in the exhibition we find famous names such as Harriet Backer and her close friends and contemporaries Kitty Kielland and Asta Nørregaard, but also more unknown artists such as Sigrid Bølling, Helga Ring Rausch and Marie Tannæs which the exhibition wanted to be brought to light.

There were six paintings by Harriet Backer in the exhibition, both landscapes and interiors all painted before 1900. Four of the paintings, Portrait of Kitty L. Kielland, Landscape at Bosvik with a red Farm House, Chez moi and Woman Sewing were also included in the exhibition tour with Riksgalleriet 1982-83.

Catalogue with an introduction by Anne Wichstrøm, 74 paintings.
